Hearth: Room Thermostat ("Hearth") is an app for iPhone and Android that runs your home's Daikin, Amana or Goodman thermostat, optionally around the rooms your sensors are in. Its data is stored in Google Firebase and is seen only by the members of your home and by Hearth's developer, who uses it to run the service and fix problems.
What Hearth stores
- The name and email of the Google account or Apple ID you sign in with (Apple may share a private relay address and no name), used to sign you in and show who made a change. Hearth is invite-only, so it also keeps the emails allowed to sign up and the emails your home's owner invited.
- Your home's name, temperature unit and time zone. When you set up a home, the app reads your phone's time zone to suggest one; only the zone you choose is saved.
- For a home on a real thermostat, the owner's SkyportHome email and integration token, used only to read and control that thermostat. The token is encrypted with Google Cloud's key management service and is never shown in the app again. A demo home stores no Daikin details: its thermostat is simulated by Hearth and starts with a day of made-up history, which is cleared if the home later connects to a real thermostat.
- Your thermostat's settings and what it's doing, read from Daikin's service.
- Readings from your home's sensors (temperature, humidity, battery) and the names they report, sent through Hearth's sensor API. The sensor key is stored only as a fingerprint, never as the key itself. If your home is connected to Ambient Weather, Hearth also keeps that account's API key, encrypted, and reads your station's readings every minute.
- Your settings in the app, and a push token and alert choices for each phone you use, to send you notifications.
- Your home's schedule, presets, summaries of its temperatures and runtime, and a history of changes that records the email of who made each one (the app shows their first name).
- App logs and crash reports, tied to your account's ID, used to fix problems. Logs sent before you sign in carry no account.
- Usage statistics, through Google Analytics for Firebase, used to see how the app is used and improve it: which screens you open, your sessions and sign-ins, an ID for the app on your phone, your account's ID while you're signed in, your phone's model and system version, and an approximate region worked out from your IP address.
Hearth doesn't use your phone's location or read your contacts. It reads your phone's time zone only to suggest one during setup, and crash reports include your phone's model and system version.
Who it's shared with
Nobody else. Hearth doesn't sell data, show ads or track you. It talks only to the services it needs to work: Google Firebase and Google Cloud (storage, sign-in, notifications, crash reports, usage statistics and encryption keys), Apple and Google (to sign you in, and to deliver notifications), Daikin's service (to read and set your thermostat), Ambient Weather (only if your home is connected to it, to read its stations), and any sensors or bridges your home sends readings from.
How it's protected
Data travels encrypted between your phone, Hearth and the services above. Only members of a home can see its data, and only its owner (Admin in the app) can change who's in it or see its admin settings.
How long it's kept
Minute-by-minute readings (the thermostat's and your sensors') are kept for 90 days and notification records for a year. App logs are kept for 30 days, crash reports for 90 days, and usage statistics tied to an app or account ID for 2 months (after that only totals remain). Summaries, the schedule, presets and the change history are kept for as long as your home uses Hearth.
Delete your account
If you're a member of a home, ask your home's owner to remove you in Hearth's Settings. Your account is deleted right away: your sign-in (every sign-in on your email), your membership, your settings and your phones' push tokens. Past entries in your home's change history keep your email address, because they're part of the home's record.
If you're a home's owner, choose Delete home in the Admin section of Hearth's Settings. It deletes the home and everything Hearth stores for it right away, including its Daikin account details, sensor readings and history, and the accounts of everyone in it.
App logs, crash reports and usage statistics that mention an account expire on the schedule above.
